Cocktail recipes - our take on the Black Russian
The sophisticats amongst you may well have tried the well-known Black Russian in your time. We used this as a base in an attempt to see if we could improve on it. Sounds boastful I know, but we think we have! Honestly ! And you’ll only know if you try both won’t you?! Our new cocktail goes under the slightly left-field name of the ‘Colonisation of the Dark World.’ We get almost as much pleasure from coming up with names as we do developing the drinks themselves. We the boys approved it to go public, so it has started featuring at our cocktail parties. It was enthusiastically commented on at the recent Kibworth Food Fair. All you need is 2 msrs vanilla vodka, 1 1/2 mrs Kahlua and the special ingredient 2 msrs Monin liquorice syrup. The drink comes out all dark and brooding, and it tastes really rich with real chocolatey undertones. It is a great late night cocktail. Give it a go, we have! The Kahlua is dead easy to get. Any of the supermarkets will sell it. Vanilla vodka (or Vanilia as the Swedes spell it) can be bought slightly further afield – Asda at Corby for instance. The Monin liquorice syrup is the toughie. We can get you some though and you can find it online. In the meantime, have a look at our recipe on our website for the classic Green Apple Martini. It’s amazing what you can find in a Nigella Lawson cookery book www.cocktailshakerboys.co.uk/index.php/recipes/green-apple-martini/The Cocktail Shaker Boys is a Leicestershire based business that provides cocktails at your home or locally hired venue.
