Memorial clock for Scout Leader erected in centenary year

01/01/1970

The Scouts raised money through bring and buy events and quiz nights together with donations from family, friends and parents of scouts who knew Skip. The Parish Council had the difficult task of finding a location for the clock and eventually The Square at Fair Oak was decided upon as the best location. The clock was installed in October and dedicated on 4th November 2007 by Roger Smith the Mayor of Eastleigh at a ceremony held in the Square, hosted by the Parish Council and the 1st Fair Oak Scouts. The event was followed by a buffet in the Scout Hut in Botley Road, where an exhibition was held in celebration of ‘100 years of Scouting’. The ‘Scout’ green pillar clock has two skeleton dials that are back illuminated at night and now stands pride of place at the heart of the community. An appropriate location for a tribute to a man who was such a central character to this neighbourhood for so many years and it is hoped the clock will be enjoyed by all for many years to come.
