Hardman flies the flag for small businesses
Born in Bury and educated at Bury Grammar School, Matt went on to study English at Sheffield Hallam University. A successful career in the media followed as he rose through the journalistic ranks at the commercial radio station Tower FM, becoming their youngest ever news and sports editor. When the station's parent company, the Wireless Group, was bought out by UTV radio, he was promoted to help develop the news and sport output at three other local stations, as well as managing Tower FM for a short period. On starting his new position, Matt said: "I have a vested interest in representing smaller firms; my wife, father and brother all run their own businesses. I am looking forward to the challenges of campaigning on behalf of FPB members and helping to create the right environment for the profitable growth of their companies." One of Matt's first priorities will be to recruit his replacement as Media and PR Officer: "It's a great opportunity, he said. "I enjoyed my time in the role immensely and I am sure whoever follows me will feel the same." "To champion the cause of smaller firms is very rewarding work." he added. The FPB is turning its attention to the shake-up of the Cabinet and how the changes will impact on smaller firms. "One of our concerns is that, following changes made by Gordon Brown, the voice of smaller companies will be ignored in favour of their larger counterparts. We will be campaigning to make sure that the UK's smaller businesses aren't left out in the cold."
