Acupuncture by AACP Chartered Physiotherapists at St Judes Clinic
Acupuncture (which can be traced back as far as 1000 BC) developed out of a concept of using needles inserted into the body as a means of balancing the movement and levels of 'Qi' (energy life force). An imbalance of Qi is thought to be associated with disease, pain or disability. Needles are inserted into particular points on the body to help restore the flow of Qi. At St Judes our Acupuncturists use sterile, single-use needles, which are very fine. Recent research is now supporting the effectiveness of acupuncture especially for the treatment of pain which is supported by an ever-growing body of evidence. Acupuncture has been recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as a cost-effective short-term treatment for persistent non-specific low back pain (source: NICE 2009). There is a lot of research and debate about what conditions are most effectively treated by Acupuncture.
