Higher Certificate in Contemporary Vocal Teaching (Children & Adolescents)
This unique course is for those who know that they want to specialize in the teaching of vocals to children and teenagers.If you are a singer age 18 or over, with experience in performing and a passion for teaching, and you are on a mission to learn how to teach vocals properly to the under-18s,then this course may be right for you. Getting vocal training right - from the ground up - is very important to us at VIDLA, and we realise that teaching children and adolescents is not the same as teaching adults - hence the need for this course! You will study the development of the larynx in teenagers, through the five stages of transformation in boys, and three in girls. You will be taught which exercises to use for the various stages, and how to keep the voice safe whilst encouraging it to develop. You will also learn a range of approaches in the important field of teaching the 7 - 11 year-olds, whose voices have not yet started to change. Many singing teachers simply do not understand the  physiology of young voices. In studying this course, you will not be one of them! Teaching rhythm is known to be a tricky subject, and so you will study ways of developing this vital skill in your students, in ways that apply to singers of all ages, but which are particularly useful when dealing with youngsters.In addition, you will be taught some essential approaches to the practice of teaching, in order that you know how to deliver your new-found knowledge, and naturally you will be given ample time to practise your teaching skills, which will be assessed 'live' via Skype at the end of your course. 5 A* - C grade GCSEs (or equivalent) are required for this course, plus a performance CV.
