Commonwealth Games finish on a high with Kylie, Lulu, Dougie MacLean and Deacon Blue.
"Pure, dead, brilliant... best Games ever" come to a close. As official providers for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Field and Lawn has been in full swing since spring in order to provide champion-worthy structures for various sporting and hospitality events. There was a welcomed period of calm in the Edinburgh office last week while the athletes enjoyed sunshine and braved rain to compete for the 1,385 medals on offer. A few of the Field and Lawn team managed to visit Glasgow last night for the Closing Ceremony. The stadium had been transformed; pop-up tents were scattered on the running track like a festival ground; the formal atmosphere had been replaced by the organised chaos of volunteers performing dance routines and sing-a-longs; Lulu was joined by Deacon Blue and Prides as entertainment; city council workers rallied around the stadium in fire engines and recycling lorries while ambulance sirens sounded and athletes waved frantically to an excited audience. Tick tock, tick tock, time goes by (pretty quickly): an hour into the ceremony and pop-queen of Australia, Kylie Minogue, arrived to perform a vibrant set that finished off the night with a blast of fireworks and a good Auld Lang Syne - the perfect hand over to Australia's Gold Coast for 2018. One of Kylie's final songs rang loud and true: 'do the locomotion.' Yes, it's time to start the Glasgow 2014 dismantle! We won't have the build-up of excitement or great sport to look forward to as we did for the installation but the success of the last few weeks; the record number of Scottish medals and the Glasgow buzz will certainly be enough to keep the momentum going as we help to bring down the curtains and canopies on what Commonwealth Games Federation President Prince Imran has called "the best Games ever".
