Painting & Decorating
It is often very difficult to identify just how to show work such as finished decorating when the viewer has no idea what it looked like to begin with. As with the cottage in the image, even before I began work on it, it was difficult to see from the ground what its many problems had been. Often its only when you get up close to it the enormity of what has to be done dawns on you. 3 sills to the dormers of this cottage were rotted, one had to be replaced and the other 2 were repaired and resurfaced before painting. The lower halves of each and every window on this job were showing signs of decay, but by the time they were finished they looked as good as new. I have taken a long time to study and work with different paints and finishes, like painting the Forth Bridge, each situation has to be dealt with individually as a lot of people find paint just falls off again even when well applied. This is so especially with modern paints and EU directives aimed at stopping the use of solvent based paints altogether. I have yet to find an adequate water based system to combat harsh weather especially sun, rain, sleet, snow, ice; in fact everything this country has! That said I remain open. I have systems of the most modern paint fall off after just 6 months of application. However there does exist a wealth of finishes which do the job. New systems are invented all the time...I can't wait!
