Craniosacral therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, holistic way of working with the body using light touch. It supports the body's own ability to balance itself and restore underlying energy. Craniosacral therapy is a suitable treatment for everyone including babies, children and the elderly. It has its origins in the work of a 20th century American osteopath, Dr William Sutherland, who detailed the movement of the cranial bones and pelvis. Craniosacral therapists work with the presence of subtle rhythmic motions within the craniosacral system which includes the cranium, spine and sacrum. The free and balanced expression of these motions is related to our state of health and vitality. Using the hands in a highly skilled way to "listen" to the body, craniosacral therapists can feel imbalances in the natural expression of movement and use a range of non invasive therapeutic skills to encourage the release of restrictions which may be linked to physical or emotional issues. This is a sensitive, quiet therapy that works respectfully to follow and support the body's own constant strive for health. It acknowledges the interconnection between mind, body and spirit to support the whole person. Treatment is suitable for a wide variety of chronic and acute conditions. Craniosacral Therapy in Pregnancy: Craniosacral therapy is a safe and gentle choice of treatment during pregnancy. It helps to relieve anxiety and discomfort, settles nervous and hormonal changes and supports the body's physical changes. The therapy is popular with mothers preparing for birth and after delivery - it provides a space for quiet reflection and bonding with their baby. Craniosacral Therapy for Babies and Children: Craniosacral therapy is widely acknowledged as a non-invasive and gentle form of treatment for the delicate systems of babies. The birth process is of particular interest as the physical forces exerted on the baby during birth can be the cause of 'holding patterns' which grow with them through childhood and into adulthood. Sometimes a baby can be "shocked" by their birth, particularly after a difficult delivery and this can contribute to sleeplessness and colic; craniosacral therapy is very good for treating this. The baby's mother or father will usually be invited to be part of the treatment session and as the baby responds to treatment, this shared experience can deepen the bonds within the new family. Children of all ages can benefit from craniosacral therapy. It is a nurturing and calming approach to childhood healthcare. Many common behavioural, social and learning difficulties respond well to it. The treatment process is gentle and supportive to the physical and emotional needs of the individual child.
