Beach Riding Holiday in Portugal | Ride the stunning beaches of the Alentejo region
Day one: Arrive at either Lisbon or Faro airport and begin your horse riding holiday! Head for Porto Covo situated on the beautiful and mostly undiscovered coastline of the Alentejo Region (two hours drive from either of the airports). This is the place where we have excellent choices of accommodation from the most luxurious of hotels to the simpler (but well equipped) rural cottages. All of the accommodation has been selected to reflect the charm of the region, making this holiday perfect for both riders and non-riders who want to enjoy the privileges of nature. Today you will have the opportunity to start your horseback adventure with an intro ride to acquaint you with both your horse and with the area.Day two: This morning the your riding will continue along cliff tops and beaches! The ride will start from the stable and head for the beach of Ilha do Pessegueiro, passing by el Fuerte and stopping at the beaches of Aivados y Malhão before turning back to the stables. The rest of the day is then free for you to enjoy as you wish however we recommend a visit to Vilanova de Milfontes or Zambujeira. Here you can enjoy the relaxed ambiance of the fishing villages and explore the magnificent beaches that this area has in abundance. Day three: After breakfast this morning you will be preparing for a special horseback adventure. We will be following a longer route that we estimate will include about four hours of riding. Your guide will lead you along a carefully planned route of coastal paths that offer truly stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. You will be riding along the coast, north towards Porto Covo, tracing the contours of the Morgavel ravine where you will see the remains of a Neolithic necropolis. From there you continue heading north through the tiny fishing village of Porto Covo where the streets end in the sea. Further along the coastal cliffs which overhang the beaches you will be a guest to spectacular views. Here the tracks are perfect for a canter or gallop. A picnic lunch will be served down in the ravine and you may like to enjoy a nice refreshing swim whilst the horses rest. After lunch we will be riding to the enchanted Vale do Gaio; the colourful flowers, shrubs and bushes of the valley give the countryside a special fairytale quality.Day four: Is the penultimate day which in this itinerary we have left free for your leisure.
