Hull EPCs

As a specialist in audio environments and having built my own recording studio, I knew quite a lot about the insulation of rooms and buildings. Keeping warmth (or sound) in and eliminating air escape are all part of the process. I was also used to dealing with clients in a professional manner and delivering an end product in a timely manner and to the customer’s satisfaction. With this in mind, it seemed a natural progression to go into domestic energy assessment, assessing dwellings and producing EPCs. A dwelling must have a valid EPC before it can be put on the market—either for rent or for sale. Each EPC lasts for ten years but there are discussions in parliament to change that to five years. EPC’s are graded A to G, with A being the most energy efficient. Currently properties need to be at least grade E before they can be rented out by landlords, but new legislation planned for 2025 will bring that requirement up to C. All of this underlines the fact that EPCs have never been as important as they are today—and their role in the property industry is only going to increase in time. EPCs started as an EU directive in 2003. When the UK left the EU the requirement was enshrined in new UK legislation. When your dwelling is assessed, not only does it receive an energy rating, but the certificate will contain specific recommendations to take the dwelling to a higher rating.
