Business profile
The Rosedene – a Victorian guest house with a history of hospitality
Long before today's guests arrived with online bookings and wheeled suitcases, visitors to Llandudno were choosing furnished rooms in the town's elegant Victorian houses. Built around 1890, The Rosedene was once known as Goleufryn. An 1895 directory lists Edward Higham offering apartments for visitors at Goleufryn on North Madoc Street - the earlier name for Arvon Avenue - so people have been coming to stay in this house for well over a century. Its high ceilings, ornate coving and Victorian character are still very much part of the stay. A quiet street, right in the middle of everything We're on a peaceful, tree-lined avenue two streets back from the promenade - far enough from the front for a proper night's sleep, close enough that the promenade is three to five minutes' walk away. The pier, the shops, the cafes and restaurants, both beaches and the Great Orme Tramway are all a short stroll, and Venue Cymru is a ten to twenty minute walk depending on your pace. The railway station is close by too, and we're well placed for days out to Conwy Castle, Eryri, Anglesey and Portmeirion. Ten individually styled en-suite rooms Every room is different, from a ground-floor twin and a genuine single to king rooms and two family rooms sleeping three. All of them are en-suite and come with fast Wi-Fi, a smart TV with streaming, a hair dryer, a fan, and tea, coffee, biscuits and breakfast bars - and selected rooms have their own Nespresso or Tassimo coffee machine. Our licensed guest lounge opens from 3pm, for a drink at the end of the day. Bed & Breathe We don't serve breakfast - and that's deliberate. We call it Bed & Breathe: your mornings are your own, with no set breakfast time to rush for, and Llandudno's cafes do breakfast brilliantly, all within a few minutes' walk. Good to know Visit Wales 4-star graded. Free on-street parking outside and on the surrounding streets, with no permit needed. Selected dogs are welcome out of season - please ask first. Check-in from 2pm, check-out by 11am, and a minimum stay of two nights. Book direct on our website for our best rates.
Meet your hosts – Mark, Andrea and Oscar
We're Mark and Andrea, and The Rosedene has been our home and our full-time job since 2022. It's the job we love most. Over the last few years we've poured a lot of care into creating a calm, quietly premium place to stay - somewhere you can properly switch off and feel looked after - because we know how precious your time away is. We want arriving here to feel like a deep breath out after a long week. We both came to Llandudno as children and fell in love with it back then, so it feels genuinely special to call it home now - and, honestly, we can't imagine ever leaving. Seeing the town afresh through our guests' eyes is a big part of what we enjoy about hosting, and it's a lovely feeling when someone tells us they've fallen for Llandudno the same way we did. Before The Rosedene, Mark built his own computer consultancy from the age of 19, and Andrea worked as a graphic designer. That mix of problem-solving and design goes straight into how we run the house: clear, friendly messages before you arrive, everything you need for your stay on your phone, and rooms that feel fresh, comfortable and thoughtfully put together, with the little touches that make them feel like your place while you're here. We're friendly and down-to-earth. We're close by if you'd like local tips, a restaurant recommendation or a hand planning a day out, and happily in the background when you just want peace and quiet. You'll probably meet Oscar, our Yorkshire terrier, who loves to say hello in the hallway - though only if you'd like to meet him. The Great Orme and the seafront are right on our doorstep - the goats, the historic tram, the cable cars, the pier and the promenade - and we're always glad to point you towards our favourite walks, cafes and viewpoints. More than anything, we hope you leave feeling rested, cared for and a little bit in love with Llandudno too. And we're still uncovering the house's past. If you have an old photograph, a postcard or a memory of staying here, we'd love to hear from you.
