Anniversary commemorated with bespoke clock tower
Good Directions Ltd, specialist clock and cupola manufacturers of Derby and Southampton, fitted the crowning glory to the housing development at Raleigh Square in Nottingham. The development consists of more than 60 flats and loft apartments completed by the Metropolitan Housing Trust, which celebrated its 40th Anniversary at the time of completion. To commemorate this special occasion a unique stainless steel clock tower was commissioned together with a one off weathervane depicting their 40th Anniversary logo. Good Directions have many years of experience in the design, manufacture and installation of new and replica clocks and clock towers. Paul Mordecai, General Manager of Good Directions said: ‘This project has been an excellent opportunity for us to use our many skills and enjoy the process of creating a unique product specific to the needs of our customer.’ Philip Wright of The Metropolitan Trust, who designed the clock tower said, ‘We wanted to create a modern feature that would be a focal point of the housing development. The stainless steel cube containing four skeleton clocks sits on top of an old chimney and the four corners face North, South, East and West so it was a natural position for a clock tower supporting a weathervane.’ The structure was created using stainless steel square hollow framework in order to maintain high strength whilst controlling the weight and offering the least wind resistance. The four Skeleton clocks, which are over a metre in diameter, are all controlled by a Total Control System, which means that even during power failures and at the summer / winter time changes, residents will always be able to look at the clocks and see the correct time.
