Top Exeter Student Wins Prize
Exeter28th November 2006Exeter Business School student Sara Sheridan has just been awarded the Revell Research Systems Prize for Top Final Year Student in FdSc Internet Technology in Business, a degree which is awarded by the University of Plymouth.Professor Peter John, the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor, presented Sara with the prize at aDegree Ceremony held at Plymouth Guildhall on Monday, 27th November 2006.Sara, who already has a BA(Hons) in Fine Art from the University, started her studies in Exeter in 1999 at the University's Arts Faculty on Topsham Road. However, not content with a Fine Art degree, she later set her sights on a computing degree to compliment it. After a break from Higher Education, she gained a place at the Exeter Business School at Exeter College, which delivers the FdSc programme for Plymouth University, where she passed with flying colours this summer.The Revell Research System Prize has been established by the Exeter based Management and Technology Consulting Practice to mark its 21st year in Business. The firm's managing consultant, Alastair Revell, commented that "Sara is clearly very capable and I have no doubt with her unusual mix of skills and education that she will make a very positive contribution to the IT industry. I'm very pleased that she should be the first recipient of our prize, which we have established to encourage such students".Her tutor, Jim Marks says of her: "Sara joined the programme with no previous IT experience and continually performed at an outstanding level in all subjects. She demonstrated exceptional levels of commitment, motivation and enthusiasm and inspired higher levels of performance in her peer group."Sara, who was the only female student on the programme, has also just scooped her first IT job with international anti-virus firm Sophos at their Oxford head office.Next year, the Revell Research Systems Prize will be awarded to a final year student on the University of Plymouth's BSc(Hons) Computing programme.
