His father was in the after sales side of the motor trade for over 35 years and John developed an interest in cars from an early age. John's father taught him much about the mechanics of cars and on leaving school John had already decided to work within the motor industry.John secured a position with a local Mazda retailer and within a year had advanced onto a Vauxhall franchise, again local to Braidwood, his hometown. John very quickly became the highest volume seller within this company and learned much about the processes involved in, not only the sales department, but also the after sales departments as well.After ten years in a smaller franchise John decided he needed a new challenge and moved to a large multi-franchised group in East Kilbride where he quickly progressed to a trainee management level. John was approached by a prestige motor company within the Lanarkshire as they recognised his potential within this area.John worked for Jaguar for ten years selling both new and used Jaguars and also used Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes amongst others. He was responsible for developing the corporate side of the business and progressed to a management level within the sales side of the business during his time with Jaguar.
