Paramecia are a group of unicellular ciliate protozoa. Tiny white bacteria, that are still big enough to see without microscope or magnifying glass. They are an excellent first food for very small freshly hatched, fragile fish because they are only about 30% the size of Artemia-nauplia. Care instruction You can use any containers between 1 and 10 liters but a 2 liter plastic bottle is the easiest way to cultivate Paramecia. Cut of the top of the bottle, fill in the Paramecia and fill the rest of the bottle with water to just 3 cm under the brim. Now you can start feeding them a few drops of milk. Paramecia feed of the tiny particles and even tinier bacteria in the milk. Feed when the water is clear again. Paramecia are harvested the same way as Vinegar Eels. You fill them in a smaller, narrow necked bottle and close up the opening with cotton wool. Pour a little fresh water over the wool and after a short while the Paramecia will make their way through the wool because of the lack of air in the bottle. You can take them off easily with a spoon or wash the wool in water and pour it in your breeding tank. Make sure the are no woolen bits in the water, tiny fish get entangled easily. Another way is to harvest them with a pipette and feed them directly to your fish. Easiest way. - or use a coffee filter. One bag can be fed as a one day portion or can be used to cultivate further.
