26/05/2020

The new web-based business for the construction trade has just been notified that it is among the major winners in the Green Apple Environment Awards – one of the few accredited feeder schemes into the international campaign They will be presented with their Green Apple Award at the House of Commons later this year, when top winners have the chance to represent their country in Brussels. They will also be invited to join the National Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others – and the environment – around the world. These plaques are presented on board The Royal Yacht Britannia. The Green Apple Awards are now in their fifteenth year and attracted more than 500 nominations this year. They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world. Les Owens, Director of BuilderScrap, said that he is ‘immensely pleased with the whole team who have worked hard to get the website up and running. To be acknowledged by such a prestigious award at such an early phase of the project is something of which we are all really proud and hope to continue to receive recognition and awards for the hard work we are carrying out to reduce the tonnage sent to landfill by this industry as a whole’. Notes to Editor: BuilderScrap is a new business offering an online portal for companies in the construction and related industries to offer their surplus materials and good quality, second hand goods to others within the sector. These will be given at no or little cost. The purpose of the site is to prevent products being sent to landfill, therefore saving costs and lowering the industry’s effect on the environment. The construction industry is currently accountable for 20% of UK waste, the equivalent of over 90 million tonnes a year (DEFRA). BuilderScrap is currently undergoing local trials, and will be live nationwide by the end of the year.
