Post Graduate Certificate in Emotional Education Oct 2013 - July 2014
The Post Graduate Certificate in Emotional Education course (PGCEE) takes place at Atlow Mill Centre for Emotional Education. It is suitable for anyone who wishes to learn more about the developing field of Emotional Literacy / Intelligence.  It is particularly relevant for people wishing to facilitate groups or teams and those who wish to improve the effectiveness of communication in their workplace.   Emotional Education can be applied to any group regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, sexuality or class.  Previous course participants include training consultants, teachers, lecturers, social workers, youth and community workers, probation officers, business managers, IT consultants, life coaches, nursing staff, carers, civil servants and engineers.  The PGCEE course is designed to provide in depth learning in emotional education both at a personal and professional level. The interactive and experiential teaching style is a core methodology for the course, together with the underlying premise that 'learning is only useful if it enables people to enhance their lives and the lives of others, through the application of their learning'. The PGCEE course aims to produce graduates who are equipped with not only knowledge but also the inner personal resources to 'make a difference in the world' in whatever sphere they wish.  The course enables participants to build confidence, enhance communication skills and so make a worthwhile contribution to their communities / work places.  It benefits learners and their communities / client groups through the development of the learner's intellectual and emotional intelligence and through their application of the knowledge learned on the course.The PGCEE course is completed in one year, October to July, one module per term. The three modules involve workshops, seminars and tutorials, together with private and directed study.  The first two modules constitute 150 hours of study each, the third module includes the summer term and the summer school and constitutes 300 hours of study.  As the modules develop, students are expected to take increased responsibility for their own learning.  Assessment is by written assignment, one per module and requires demonstration of evidence of the ability to integrate theory with practice.  The course is fully accredited by the University of Derby with a graduation ceremony in the January following the end of the course.Students are expected to attend all nine residential weekends and the Summer School all of which are held at Atlow Mill Centre.  Each weekend starts on Friday evening at 8pm whilst Saturday and Sunday hours are 9.30am to 5-6pm.  Self-catering accommodation is available at Atlow Mill Centre or there are a number of nearby B&B's.
