Camping and Glamping on the Pembrokeshire Coast
Nestled in an ancient wooded valley with views down to the spectacular North Pembrokeshire Coast, the Preseli Glamping meadow with secluded camping glades and woodland glamping, is just a 15 minute walk through the bluebell-carpeted National Trust woodland trails to the secluded sandy beach of Abermawr, and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Located on the wild and dramatic north Pembrokeshire coast between Fishguard and St David's, Preseli Glamping is near the hill-top village of Mathry, and is a great spot from which to explore, right in the unspoilt heart of the National Park. Fourteen spacious camping glades fringe a rolling meadow amongst the wildflowers and woodland saplings, whilst a luxurious geodesic dome is hidden in a sheltered clearing at the foot of the valley. A rural retreat, rich in wildlife, Preseli Glamping offers a unique opportunity to restore and reconnect with Nature in a secluded coastal sanctuary. The campsite has excellent facilities including a brand-new sparkling clean bathroom block, plenty of hot water for showers and washing dishes provided by our air-source heat pump, as well as a freezer for freezer blocks and USB charging points. There are private picnic tables and fire pits with cooking grills for every pitch, and a wide open grassy space for yoga, reading in the sun, ball games and children's games, it's the perfect setting for families, couples or groups of friends to escape, relax and reset in beautiful, comfortable surroundings. Kids are safe to play freely as the meadow is not suitable for vehicles, so all cars are parked securely in the private camping car park. Wheelbarrows are provided to transport your bags to your camping glade. A plethora of local walking routes, starting and finishing at the campsite, as well as longer coast path walks that link up with the coastal shuttle buses, will immerse you in the natural and historical heritage of the landscape. From craggy cliffs and undulating coves, ancient drowned forests to Neolithic burial chambers; from Tregwynt Mill the oldest working woollen mill in Wales, to the magnificent St David's 12th-century cathedral. Exploring these well-marked trails, swathed in bluebells, sea campion, yellow gorse and pink thrift flowers, you can spot inquisitive grey seals bobbing by the rocky shoreline, pods of harbour porpoise and Atlantic sea birds such as gannets fishing, peregrines diving and kittiwakes nesting. Mull over mesmerising rock pools where ruby-red beadlet anemones sway, blennies dart between pebbles and winkle shells shimmer in the sun... Comb the tideline for a mermaid's purse or sea-smoothed driftwood. Further afield, it's a 15-minute drive to Abereiddy, a beautiful beach with extraordinary black sand, a row of ruined mining cottages and the Blue Lagoon, a breached quarry with bright blue waters perfect for diving and swimming! It's a touch over 15 minutes to diminutive St Davids city and its stunning medieval cathedral where you can also take a boat trip around RSPB Ramsey Island to see a myriad of wildlife. Neighbouring Preseli Venture is the 5-star sustainable outdoor activity centre, Preseli Venture, and here is the place to meet your adventurous edge. Sea kayaking trips will take you paddling amongst towering stack rocks and natural archways, booming sea caves and beautiful rock gardens. Take an invigorating plunge on a coasteering adventure, traversing the natural playground where the land meets the sea with the encouraging guidance of passionate and knowledgeable local guides. Suit up, boot up and pop up on clean, green, peeling waves with the help of expert surf instructors who'll take you to the best blue-flag beach breaks. Excellent quality specialist kit and minibus transport to take you to the nearby chosen venue is provided from the adventure centre, right next to the campsite. Adventurers of all ages are very welcome with a minimum age of 8 years required. After taking an invigorating sunset dip in the clean fresh waters of Abermawr bay, back in the comfort of the campsite, cosy up and cook on your open fire and relax for the evening under the starry night sky. Or alternatively stroll over to the Preseli Venture eco-lodge restaurant and bar where you can enjoy delicious and wholesome meals prepared with fresh locally sourced ingredients by their in-house chef, accompanied by a local brew from the well-stocked and beautifully furnished eco lodge bar.

Brilliant father/ son camping trip
Absolutely loved it! My dad and I went away for a father/son camping trip - the first since I was a child, and it was just brilliant. We both thought that the campsite was one of the best we've been to, mainly because of the big spaces between each pitch. The site facilities were great, and the showers were always hot! Would definitely come again
First class campsite - an amazing experience!
The space each pitch has along with the facilities made for an extremely enjoyable stay! We will most definitely be back again soon to camp and to experience some of the other trips and experiences that Preseli venture has to offer! The kayaking was amazing, it was a lot of fun paddling between the rocks and exploring the rugged coastline. Both Ollie and Fin are excellent ambassadors for Preseli Venture, both very friendly, encouraging, and knowledgeable about the area.
A great feeling of freedom
A great feeling of freedom, super large pitches, loads of space & really well looked after amenities in a great location and not at all crowded. A perfect escape on the doorstep of beautiful scenery. A far cry from busy, rule-led campsites. Few restrictions & lots of respect. Will be back.
One of the best campsites i've been to!
We absolutely loved Preseli. The space and privacy between the pitches, and the quiet, beautiful, car-free location meant it was the most peaceful camping experience we've had in years. We loved the firepit and bench on the HUGE pitch. The shower facilities were immaculate. We walked to the coastal path and cycled from the site – so rarely needed to get in the car. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. It's going to be lovely to see the trees between the pitches grow. I can't wait to come back next year.
One of the most relaxing camping holidays i've ever had!
You had the right balance of camping comfort and ease (e.g. large and level pitches, clean spacious bathrooms, firepits and tables, option to eat next door if we wanted) while allowing us to have a true, proper camping experience with all the fun that brings. I loved that you keep the cars well away from the tents, and the pitches offer the right level of privacy and community with those next door. We will be back for sure!
Lovely layout and pretty wildflower meadow
Lovely layout, so much space. Good facilities. Friendly staff. The walk to the beach was perfect. The wildflower meadow surrounding the pitches is very pretty. We'll definitely be back
beautifully landcaped and well situated for walking
Beautifully laid out. In a few years, all the saplings will have grown into young trees and it will be even more lovely. We had the whole place to ourselves which was an additional blessing. We really liked no caravans or camper vans, also the fire pit on each pitch. The morning birdsong was terrific. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with lots of good walks. A bonus was the small number of tourists compared to Cornwall where we come from. We’ll be back!
FAQs
Can I walk to the beach from the campsite?
Yes! The secluded sandy beach of Abermawr is only a 15 minute walk through the bluebell woods as well as the neighbouring beach, Aberbach, both of which lie on the Pembrokeshire coast path.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome in the campsite, and must be kept on a lead at all times. Please don’t leave your dog unattended as barking dogs annoy everyone! We’re sorry but they cannot come into the eco lodge if you’re eating your meals there, however, you can bring them over to eat outdoors at a picnic table outside the lodge.
Is it a family friendly campsite?
Our campsite is perfect for families! We have a wide open rolling grassy meadow which is a communal space for playing and completely car-free. We ask our campers to respect our quiet talking hours between 10pm and 7am.
We’re two families, but we want to share the same pitch, is this possible?
Yes, that’s absolutely fine! You can pitch your tents together on the same pitch. Our pricing is per unit, and is up to a maximum of 6 people per unit, so if you have 2 family tents, this means you need to book and pay for 2 units. So even though you are required to book and pay for 2 units, once you arrive you are welcome to pitch up all together on the same grassy pitch. Please do email if you have any questions!
Are we allowed a “pup tent” for the kids on our pitch?
Sure. We allow one pup tent per unit. No extra charge. You just book and pay for the number of people staying in your unit. Each unit has maximum of 6 people. If you are over 6 people, please book and pay for another unit.
Can I park my campervan on my pitch?
No, the camping meadow is completely vehicle-free, which makes it safe for children playing and keeps the grass lush and green! Campervans can park up in our car parking area off-season only and will also have a pitch for a 1 pup tents (if for example you have children who aren’t sleeping in the van), relaxing, using the fire pit and picnic table. We recommend choosing one of the higher pitches such Gannet’s ledge so that your pitch is near your campervan.
Is there an electric hook-up for my campervan?
No, the only unit which has electric lighting and power points is the Geodesic Dome, though there are USB charging points you can use for phone charging.
Can I park my car next to my tent?
No, our camping meadow is completely vehicle-free, which makes it safe for children playing and keeps the grass lush and green! We have all-terrain wheelbarrows for transporting your luggage to and from your pitch. The upper pitches such as Gannet’s Ledge and Fulmar’s Nest are closest to the car park.
We’d like to come by train, is it possible to reach the campsite in this way?
Yes! It’s very easy to reach us by train. Our local station is Fishguard and Goodwick, about 15 mins away, from where you can get a taxi (£15) or catch a bus to Mathry village and walk one mile down the hill to Preseli Glamping. For more information, please read our Find Us page.
Is it possible to do a round walk which starts and ends at the campsite?
Yes. We’ve collated a selection of local circular walks in the local area. Take a trip around the Abermawr valley – Mathry village woodland circuit, walk to the wild Abermawr beach and over to Melin Tregwynt, the iconic Welsh Woollen Mill or explore our other local beaches Pwllstrodur, Abercastle and Pwllcrochan. You can see these maps with route info on the notice board in the campsite.
We would like to do one of Preseli Venture’s adventure holidays, can we do this whilst staying in the campsite instead of the lodge?
You can’t do one of Preseli Venture’s packaged up holidays whilst staying in the campsite, but you can put together your own itinerary by booking adventure days with us.
Is there free WiFi I can connect to at the campsite?
There is free WiFi available at the top area of the campsite in the car parking area. Picnic tables provided to sit at!
