Energy and microgeneration management EMMA
Get better cost-efficiency from the electricity output from your solar pv installation. 50% of the electricity your pv installation generates is "lost" to the Grid - EMMA provides the solution. Electricity generated by your pv installation that is not consumed by your home and its appliances is Exported to the National Grid for a nominal payment. This happens because the industry has agreed that the total amount of Export per year from a domestic solar pv installation does not justify the installation cost of an Export meter at the installation. Instead, the amount Exported is not metered but is deemed, based on an industry calculation, to be a half of your total generation, with a payment made of just 3p per unit (kWh) of electricity Exported. Now, the decision whether to Export or store the surplus electricity generated is back under the installation owner's control and can be made automatically. EMMA acts as your microgeneration manager to make sure that the house has priority use of all electricity generated, and , if no appliances need the supply of power, the electricity can be fed into the domestic hot water tank and the electricity needed to be supplied to your house from the Grid at 12p/kWh is reduced. The storage heating devices to which surplus power can be diverted by your EMMA, your microgeneration manager, includes not only standard hot water cylinders but also underfloor electric-heating, standard electric storage heaters and electric radiators. EMMA accurately monitors usages and sends the surplus power to these devices. Using the microgeneration manager, the Emma (Energy & Microgeneration Manager) reduces the amount of electricity that needs to be brought in from the Grid to heat your home and can produce savings of up to £1200/year, depending on the size of your installation
