It's always been there: a natural response to the world around me to create art. From an early age the one thing I enjoyed doing most was drawing. Originally I just loved draughtsmanship. Consequently, I have this inbuilt natural perspective ability so I can draw at high speed. I can scribble a drawing quickly and make it pretty accurate. If there are a few structural points that are correct, the painting works. I enjoy being in the studio to paint. I like being out and about but only to form the basis of a new group of paintings. Then in the studio I can focus and I have a much clearer idea of what I want to do. Sometimes I'll just see a painting and it's in my head. Is it the same painting when it's finished? Probably not. I let the paint dictate. So I start by under-painting - running colour over the board. That gives me line, texture and moments of impromptu creation and those are the magic moments. For me, the memories of this place, those little moments in time that are so special to people - these are the feelings that I like to capture in my paintings.
