GapYear Volunteering College Education Community

Business profile

CICD is a different kind of college.

CICD is a not-for-profit residential college based in East Yorkshire, we are also accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education as a Short Course Provider, we can also offer a scholarship programme. Since 1998 we have trained more than 1200 volunteers to help Humana projects in Africa and India. We work with children, parents, farmers, teachers, local leaders, national government and international partners to tackle the root causes of poverty, and together with them, to build sustainable and thriving communities. We also work on many projects here in the UK and Europe, community food banks, soup kitchens, helping the homeless and investigating social injustice, climate change and media reporting. Our programmes and volunteering projects also prove very popular for students thinking about a gap year or at post graduate level, however, CICD attracts a range of students of all ages, nationalities, faiths and backgrounds, and our students experience not only theoretical education but a practical one too.

FAQs

I am from Brazil. Can I get a visa to join the programme ?

Yes. CICD is accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent, Further and Higher Education (BAC) as a Short Course Provider. If you come from outside the UK or Ireland, you can join a programme at CICD for up to 6 months with a visitor visa. (Please note that there will be some countries that you will need to obtain a visa).

My passport expires at the start of 2025, will that be ok if I am doing my programme and volunteering in 2024 ?

This is such a great question, and there can be a lot of confusion regarding passport expiry dates, in general, it seems for the majority of countries, you would need to have 6 months remaining on your passport for the return journey home after your programme and volunteering project is completed.

How many hours a week do we study?

This programme is very much Full Time! It is intensive and varied, and you will often be busy during weekends and in the evenings. This could be 40-60 hours a week.

Who are the teachers at CICD?

We are a very mixed bunch - from different countries and with a range of different qualifications and experiences. Most teachers are former Development Instructors, and some also have many years of teaching experience as well as experience from working at Humana's projects in Africa. There is a short presentation of each of them in the section "Meet the staff group" on the CICD web site.
