Introduced in 1996, the Ford Ka was a low cost addition to the Ford range. It is a small car, based on the Ford Fiesta chassis, but with a much more radical departure in shape. The Ford Ka, built in Valencia, produced quite a mixed reaction due to its new design. However, the Ka was universally applauded for its handling capabilities. Due to improved suspension, it was able to take corners comfortably at speed and had superb road holding, and was generally held to be one of the best handling cars of its type. The added advantage that it was a low cost car with low motor insurance premiums made it a highly profitable car for Ford.
