What do you really know about chiropractic?
Everyone knows chiropractors are great at treating back and neck pain. What you may not know is that chiropractic is the UK's third largest primary healthcare profession and has been successfully treating people without drugs or surgery for over 100 years. Chiropractic is as much to do with the nervous system as it is your joints and muscles. The nervous system controls every cell, organ and system of your body. Nerve impulses flow from the brain, down the spinal cord and to every organ and tissue. In turn, impulses travel back to the brain to confirm what is happening and that the body is working as it should. The 24 moving bones of the spine can interfere with this exchange, as the nerves pass between the spinal joints on their way to and from the spinal cord. Everyday activities can force these bones to lose their normal position or mobility and become jammed. The resulting choked or irritated nerves can degrade or distort the messages they are transmitting, causing nervous system malfunction, which in turn causes pain and ill health. In fact, chiropractic can effectively treat conditions such as headaches, dizziness, digestive disorders and pregnancy-related symptoms, as well as being renowned for treating trapped nerves, shoulder/hip/knee pain and sports injuries. Dr Lisa Lagadec explains how she gets results, "A healthy body needs balance of joints and muscles, and of the information traveling through the nervous system. I use specific gentle adjustments to influence and improve the physical imbalances that cause pain and discomfort. When things go wrong, the only hint might be a 'niggle' - this is the time to seek treatment, before it escalates. By ensuring the whole spine is functioning correctly, the entire body can work as it should. It's great to see patients leave my clinic healthier, happier and able to do all the things they enjoy in life!"
