Lacey Green Windmill is the oldest smock windmill in England. It stands on the Chilterns escarpment to benefit from the prevailing south west winds. It has its original wooden machinery which dates from the mid 17th century. The mill was in use until 1915, but by the late 1960s was close to collapsing.
