Armoured cable is self protecting. Standard optical fibre cable spare length normally has to be accommodated in the cabinet for protection. Armoured cable spare length can be left outside the cabinet e.g. in floor spaces. Standard optical fibre cable wear and over bending can degrade transmission quality and security. Armoured cable resists both these effects. Standard optical fibre cable is not suitable for outside deployment and can be affected by moisture, rodents, natural erosion and being stepped on. Armoured cable resists all these effects. Standard optical fibre cable is hard to recover without damage from corrugated tubes especially if there are many bends or many cables. Armoured cable does not need corrugated tubes.
