The nearest towns are Kendal about 16 miles away and Penrith about 11 miles away both of which have supermarkets, lots of shops, restaurants and cinemas. The location is ideal as a base for cyclists with routes into the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Eden Valley, the welcomes guest cyclists and has runs every Sunday and Wednesday some of which start from Shap.The nearest Lake is Ullswater which is the second largest lake in the Lake District and offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the UK and many activities including: superb walking; sailing; cycling; rock-climbing; fishing and organised cruises. Haweswater is even closer (6 miles) and far far quieter than the central lakes is the remote hidden gem in our opinion.
