Oil Company Tries to Takeover Valvoline.co.uk Domain Name!
In 2001, Valvoline.co.uk received an email letter from Ashland Ltd stating that Ashland had the 'right' to the valvoline.co.uk domain name (untrue), and that we should hand over ownership of the domain immediately. Failure to do so would result in legal action centred around Trademark infringement.Indeed, had they done any homework, they would know that their legal threat was entirely empty. More fool them.However, repeated threats of legal action from Ashland have occurred on several occasions since then, resulting in the valvoline domain to remain in a stagnant, undeveloped state - what's the point in spending time, effort, and money developing a web site if some big corporation is threatening to force you to relinquish it.Ashland have offered money, but fell short of the required amount by a paltry £750.
