Mei was born in Hong Kong in 1959 and moved with her family to England at the age of two. Settling in to a rural life in Taunton, Somerset, she attended St Augustine's School, and then studied further at Taunton College of Art and Technology with the aim of pursuing a career in fashion design. Her application to St Martin's School of Art in London was successful and she graduated with a BA in Fashion Design in 1980.Mei's passion and skill lies in the entire process of fashion design: taking an idea, designing it on to paper and translating that into a beautiful garment. She is highly skilled in haute couture and her designs flow off the page and into material. She works by personal appointment only, working closely with the client to create a piece that is unique, whether it is a bridal gown, bridesmaid dress or occasional wear.
