Two amateur helicopter pilots take seven weeks off work to try to fly a tiny helicopter from London to Sydney. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Along the way they are entertained by Libyan Secret Policemen, shot at by Egyptian border guards, and are fed raw liver in Jordan, before being imprisoned by Pakistani soldiers in the middle of a government coup. Tim Gilbert tells this adventure story with quiet humour and the kind of eye for detail that makes Bill Bryson such a great read.
