Counselling can be life changing

Confidentiality is important in therapy. We adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics on confidentiality and would only consider breaking that confidentiality if:There was disclosure of ongoing abuse/neglect of a child or vulnerable adult. If it was considered that a client was a danger to him/herself or to others. In situations where there is a legal obligation to do so (e.g. under the Terrorism Act 2000) A counsellor would normally first discuss the situation with the client, encourage him/her to participate in the disclosure and support them in doing this.Your counsellor will not discuss what occurs in your therapy except in supervision (in accordance with the BACP Code of Ethics). If you have any questions that are not answered on the site, or to make an initial appointment without commitment, please feel free to contact our practice by telephone, letter or email. Is Counselling what I need? If the answer is yes to any of the statements below, some form of talking therapy may be right for you. "I am stuck in my life""I repeat the same patterns of behaviour""I am overwhelmed by feelings of confusion anxiety and depression""I don't seem to be able to handle my problems like other people do" "I am sick of being myself""I am self-destructive""I have a bad self-image and low self-esteem""I have persistent problems with relationships""I would like to gain more confidence""I would like to get to know myself better""I would like to change the way I behave""I have fears and phobias about things that affect my life""I struggle to make and maintain relationships""I have problems at work"Simply having someone to tell your troubles to can often be a great relief, but in the modern world people with the time and inclination to be good listeners are sometimes hard to find. A counsellor is a trained listener who will not feel "put upon" or want to tell his or her own problems in return. A good counsellor, however, will do more than just lend a sympathetic ear. He/she will help you to see and understand the process by which you can become trapped in your own issues and "unable to see the wood for the trees". This insight can often enable you to make choices instead of feeling, or being, powerless victims. Counselling is strictly confidential and complete discretion is assured. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, physical disability, gender or sexual orientation.
