Silane Safety - Reducing Risk
In his presentation, Al discussed the risk engineering standards that are used for silane system design and installation, and some of the challenges that silane using industries are facing. These industries include semiconductor, LCD/FPD and Photovoltaic device fabrication. Al highlighted that although all based on the same science and research, each of the main silane standards and guidelines has a different objective, whether it be life safety, property protection or preventing business interruption. He reviewed the objectives of the standards and discussed some of the factors that have affected recent silane projects including RFO sizing, ventilation and separation distances. Al also looked at some of the designs and practices still found in industry which remain a cause for concern.A copy of his presentation is available on the RUSHBROOK website. Eugene Ngai Al Brown at the AIGA Silane Seminar in Singapore November 2007 Silane is an electronic specialty gas that has widespread use in the semiconductor fabrication industry and has been used in commercial quantities since the mid 1960's. Within the last 10 years, LCD and PV manufacturing has expanded significantly and in 2008, these manufacturers will use more silane than the IC companies. Recently, significant incidents occurred with the use of silane, highlighting the need to reinforce safe handling procedures. This professional development course was put on to review all aspects of silane handling, bringing together many acknowledged experts to reinforce silane standards and regulations. Topics covered will include;Incidents and Learnings, Regulations, Safety Standards, Bulk Packages Release Testing, Risk Assessments, Emergency Response System Design.
