Business profile
Neil Luxton has been in the industry for over two decades, and can provide you with beautiful stone carving. Neil will guide you through the planning process and ensure that you are completely happy with your finished piece. Neil began as a stone carver by following in his fathers footsteps after leaving school. He served an apprenticeship for over 7 years, following this he became self-employed in monumental and architectural carving. In 1990 Neil established his own monumental masonry business located in Burnham-on-Crouch, supplying stones and lettering on a direct basis as well as offering a specialist service for design and carving to other local masons. Since 1997 Neil has been working at Highgate Cemetery creating memorials onsite. He also works to private commission at his studio in Sudbury, Suffolk. Memorials are extremely personal, and therefore, need to look beautiful, and express exactly what is required. When comparing mass produced memorial stones to Neil Luxton's creations, the comparison between a print and an original painting can indicate the kind of difference you will gain. To understand how memorials can be beautiful, take a tour of Highgate Cemetery; sense how the designs and inscriptions still speak from the past to move you today. In modern cemeteries the experience is usually very different as mass produced stones and mechanical lettering have increasingly become the norm. Neil is the in-house stonemason for Highgate Cemetery, producing some of the finest monuments the cemetery has ever seen. Apart from being one of Londons greatest treasures, Highgate Cemetery is a haven of beauty and tranquillity, far away from the hustle and bustle of London life. There is a romantic confusion of plants, trees, memorials and wildlife. The ubiquitous ivy, wild flowers and native grasses provide not only a beautiful setting, but also a sanctuary for nature in the heart of London.
