AromatherapyScent and the PsycheAromatherapy dates back to the ancient Egyptians and in its modern form was developed by French pioneers in the last century. The natural plant essences used in aromatherapy are inhaled through the nose and absorbed by the skin and reach the limbic area of the brain. This area is responsible for moods, emotions, memory and learning; hence aromatherapy is ideal for optimising our mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing as well as supporting the body. Essential oils can be used to soothe, uplift, relax, energise, stimulate and many shades in-between to balance the individual client. After a consultation to ascertain client goals, a specific prescription of essential oils is tailored to the person. A relaxing massage is then carried out to allow the essences, which are diluted in cold pressed plant oils for the benefit of skin type, to be absorbed into the system. Ideally a 90 minute treatment allows for a full body massage, facial and scalp massage as desired. Advice and products for home use can be provided as a part of the treatment by discussion to enhance and extend the benefits of the massage. As well as managing many aspects of stress, aromatherapy can help with a range of physical conditions: the immune system, digestion, hormones, skin conditions and scars, the circulation, muscles and joints and more.
