Basingstoke and District Dog Training Club was founded in 1975 and is registered with the Kennel Club. The aims of the club is to: Promote responsible dog ownership and happy, sociable dogs within our community. To encourage participation in The Kennel Club (KC) Good Citizens Awards and other activities that the club is involved in. The club organises Open Obedience Dog Shows, Companion Dog Shows(open to the public) and supports charities through these events where possible. To give advice, guildance and support both domestic pet and competion obedience dog owners.Our ClassesPuppy Play Group - Starts at 6:45pm in the reception area. Puppies from 8 to 17 weeks may join. Puppies may stay in this class whilst waiting for the next Beginners Course. They will be given the opportunity to start The Kennel Clubs 'Good Citizens Award'. The fee charged for this class includes temporary club membership. Beginners Course - Starts at 6:45pm in the main hall and runs for 10 weeks and is open all. Dogs may complete the Puppy award during the beginner course if already started.On successful completion of the course a certificate will be awarded. The dogs may take the test for the Puppy Good Citizens award. The course fee includes temporary club membership.Kennel Club Bronze Class:Start at 7:30pm and is open to all those wishing to progress from the Beginner level, they do not have to take the Good Citizens test and the class content will include fun things not required for the test. Anyone may join upon becoming a full member of the club Kennel Club Silver and Gold Class:Start at 7:30pm and is open to all. As well as a natural progression from the Bronze class anyone wishing to work at a higher level is welcome. They must be full members of the club.We offer training to members who wish to compete with their dogs in competitive obedience. All levels are welcome from pre-beginners upwards. All members are welcome to come along and have a go.We train outside when the weather permits.Our instructors are unpaid volunteers with many years experience of training and handling dogs and have taken part in many and varied canine activities.The instructors keep up to date with training methods and attend appropriate courses as required.Fees charged for training and other activities goes toward the rent for venues, training courses for instructors, putting on shows and generally supporting the dog community through our yearly chosen charity.There is tea and coffee available both evenings and any small donation will go to our charity. Everyone is welcome to stay all evening, not just for their class.The key to good training is enjoyment, both yours and your dogs, so please have fun and feel free to ask any questions of the instructors.
