Radio Deeside is a comunity radio station being planned for Deeside, Flintshire. Radio Deeside is run by volunteers and intends to provide local radio for Deeside on both the FM waveband and the Internet. Radio Deeside was first broadcast in 1980 by the BBC as an experiment. Members of the Deeside community are now banding together on a voluntary basis to bring back Radio Deeside in 2010, 30 years after its original inception. Organisers Roy Norry and Barry Dale say "It's ironic that Radio Deeside of the 1980's was born at a time when there were mass redundancies at British Steel and Courtaulds and local people were finding it hard to balance their finances, when today Radio Deeside is being born at a time when once again there are many redundancies and job losses in the area and at a time of the credit crunch affecting many families and businesses". Is it ironic, or is this good timing by the two volunteers who know local radio like the back of their hands?
