Business profile
The Young People's Trust for the Environment is a charity which aims to encourage young people's understanding of the environment and the need for sustainability. We provide free environmental talks, information, downloads and services for schools, young people, parents and adults. Free information service: available online from our website, www.ypte.org.uk . The site provides news updates and hundreds of factsheets and fun downloads on wildlife and environmental issues, written specifically for young people. Over 4 million pages per year are currently downloaded from the site, but this is growing all the time. Free school talks service: our interactive and dynamic presentations on a wide range of environmental issues are extremely popular with schools. The talks are provided absolutely free to schools within 60 miles of our offices in Crewkerne, Somerset; Brighton, Sussex and Keighley, West Yorkshire. Environmental Discovery Courses: a fantastic way for school groups in years 4 to 8 to experience nature at first hand. The courses deliver lasting impacts to participants, making learning fun. Courses are provided at a residential centre in Dorset. We endeavour to subsidise our courses where possible for schools from disadvantaged areas. Publication of Conservation Education: a termly magazine for teachers, downloadable free of charge from our website. Each issue covers a different aspect of the environment, and is linked to the National Curriculum. Publication of The Yippittee!: our termly magazine for young people, downloadable free of charge from our website. Full of fun facts, puzzles and terrible jokes! Roots to Green Living: is a project running in the Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset area. Over the course of three years our Education Officer is working in eight schools to develop and sustain environmental projects in school grounds and assist with the integration of the environment into the curriculum. TOTAL Green School Awards: supported by Total, these exciting UK-wide environmental awards are now in their sixth year and offer sixteen prizes and a top prize of £5,000. The Awards are for groups of young people aged 5 to 11 and encourage environmental issues to be taught in a cross-curricular way, so that subjects like Art, English, History, Mathematics and Home Economics could form the focus of your project in an equally valid way to the more obvious approached to be taken through Science, Technology and Geography. What is more, the Awards help make learning fun! Feedback: “I just want to thank you guys, your site really helped me to write an assignment for my teacher, your site is really awesome, now that I know more about our environment I will try to take more care. Thank you”. "The children are just full of the experiences they had - they are going to share their week with the whole school in assembly. The children have loved every minute...but most of all it has spurred them on
