Launch of "Green" Bumper Protection
Having 2 Directors who have had a combined 50 years of experience in loading bay design, with a multitude of clients, Caydor have a position of some envy, with their knowledge and versatility in solving customer problems. Having launched their LP1100 PE protection posts some two years ago, followed quickly by a 24volt LED red/green traffic light for use on doors and loading bays, Caydor have now taken customer complaints of rubber bumpers being damaged easily by vehicles moving on the loading bays, when loading or unloading takes place. Caydor developed a moving version of the rubber bumpers, but still found there was some wear caused by heavy forces impacting and moving both up and down. Their solution: Taking a material used at several Ports in the UK for protecting dock walls against impact from Ferries coming over from the Continent, Caydor then looked at ways of converting this into a product which would give the customer a much greater life span. The design they chose, which has now been thoroughly tested on 'live' sites give the product four times the use of conventional bumpers. The PE blocks are machined to fit into a heavy duty steel 'carriage', with no fixings required to secure. When the carriage has been secured to the dock face, the blocks are dropped into position, take extremely high impact, and when the customer feels the time is right, the blocks are lifted out, turned upside down and dropped back into the carriage. After many months of wear, these blocks can then be taken out again, turned through 360 degrees and dropped back into the carriage again for more use. Finally, after more wear and tear, the blocks can be taken out again, and turned upside down for a final use over the next few months.Customer response has been tremendous. After the first six months of constant use, the first test site is still on its first position with the PE bumper and no sign of it being turned upside down yet. Rubber bumpers had less than a 12 month lifespan using standard moulded bumpers in this same application.
