Two Local Men From Hull Return Home To Open A New Healthcare Centre
A successful self-made multi-millionaire business entrepreneur and world leading research professor return to their roots in Hull by opening a new screening and ultrasound healthcare centre giving greater choices to the people of Humberside Ian Richardson was born and raised in Hull, before moving to Leeds in the late 1980's where he became one of the youngest corporate finance partners at Eversheds, an international law firm. In 2002 Ian left the law to set up a private healthcare business with his business partner Dr Magdy Ishak, which included Transform Medical Group. After being instrumental in ensuring Transform became the UK's largest cosmetic surgery business, the group was successfully sold in 2007. Rather than retiring to enjoy his well earned multi-million pound success, Ian had a long standing wish to create a lifestyle group of companies which would lead the way in preventive and healthcare services, so together with Dr Ishak, they acquired the Leeds Screening Centre in 2010 and this is my: health screening and ultrasound centres were born - Ian's dream had started to become a reality. By coincidence, one of the founders of the Leeds Screening Centre is Professor Howard Cuckle, also born and raised in Hull, before becoming the world recognised leader in pre-natal screening. Professor Cuckle's research includes genetic screening for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, fragile X and spinal muscular atrophy along with a group screening test for Ashkenazi Jewish population for conditions including Tay Sachs. Another major Cuckle development was his optimal Down's syndrome screening test, Addmark®. Along with a specialist medical team, Ian and Howard have developed this is my: into a respected medical establishment and along with a recently opened Manchester centre, Hull is the next centre to join the group meaning that a determined vision to build a UK leading group of companies has truly begun. this is my: Hull Screening Centre opened its doors on 15th December 2011 and is located at the world leading visitor attraction site The Deep offering patients direct, instant and affordable healthcare at a local clinic location with a date and time to suit them with no waiting lists. The new Hull Screening Centre will offer the people of Humberside, East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire a medically backed, fast access range of health care services including obstetric scans and pregnancy screening tests, a fertility monitoring service plus general body diagnostic ultrasound imaging including musculoskeletal scans. Along with screening tests for a range of inherited genetic conditions this is my will give easy access to many services not always readily available on the NHS. Although the PCT's and PCB's of East Yorkshire and the Humber are constantly looking to reduce their waiting times especially for ultrasound, physiotherapy and musculoskeletal problems, there is still a way to go, so the need to provide an additional healthcare service in Hull, which allows for quick affordable appointment times was recognised by Ian and his team when carrying out the due diligence in the area. Ian says "Our goal was simple, offer people choices which then allows for an informed decision about a preventative approach to good healthcare for future generations to come. Patients should not have to wait for ultrasound scans if they're worried or in pain, nor spend lots of money to receive healthcare if they do not have access to private medical insurance. Working alongside local GP's, midwifes and individuals, the opening of the new Hull Screening Centre will address these issues and that need ." Professor Cuckle comments "Genetic screening in conjunction with ultrasound scanning has the potential to enable expectant parents to know more about their baby before birth than ever before. Being born in this region, I'm delighted we're now offering important healthcare reassurance services to the people of Hull region."
