A woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after her young daughter was killed in a crash. The Ford Fiesta in which the woman was driving left the road and hit a tree in Gibbins Road, in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham. It happened at around 4pm on Thursday. The woman's two-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat, suffered critical injuries. Passers-by and paramedics tried to revive the girl but she was pronounced dead after arriving at hospital. Four other people in the car, including the girl's mother, suffered minor injuries. A post-mortem examination was due to take place to determine the cause of death. The 22-year-old mother was also questioned over an allegation of child neglect. Henna Rai, a passer-by who tried to give CPR to the child, told the Birmingham Mail about the moment paramedics took over the effort to save her. The trained first-aider said: "They swept her out from underneath me, I said: 'Save her, just save her'. "The mother was utterly devastated, she was just broken, she was screaming." She said she was driven to go back to the spot afterwards to take in what had happened. "I went back and sat there and reflected and just cried," she told the Birmingham Mail. "I can't even fathom what the family must be enduring."
