Promoting woodturning in Wellingborough, Kettering in surrounding areas, Wellingborough & District Woodturning Club was started in 2000. It is a friendly club that prides itself in providing its members with support and instruction in their hobby. No previous experience is required to join the club, all levels of turners are welcome. Meetings usually take place on the second or third Monday of the month at Hardwick Village Hall. There are frequent evenings with professional turners from whom members can draw inspiration and skills. Once or twice a year there is an all day event when a professional turner demonstrates the various techniques he uses. There is an additional charge to cover these all day sessions but everyone agrees it is money well spent. There is a misunderstanding that wood turning is a man's hobby, however some of the best wood-turners in the world are women. Currently the club has one lady member; any ladies interested would be welcome to come along and have a chat with her and the other members. There are evenings when additional lathes are set up so club members demonstrate various skills that they have acquired to other members or perhaps help a member who has had a problem with a particular technique. Members are encouraged to bring their work along to show other members and perhaps get advice from a professional turner. We have a monthly competition where members bring an agreed item. They are then judged and awarded points which are collected through the year. The club has a library of books and DVDs available to members Additionally the club has its own shop selling woodturning consumables such as sanding sealer, polishes abrasives etc. Turnery timber is often available at meetings from a local timber dealer. Interested? Come along to one of our 'Hands On' evenings for a free taster. Alternatively come to one of our demo nights; there will be a charge for this (see individual demo details).
