National Link Couriers - proud to support the MNDA charity
National Link Couriers is proud to support the work of the Northampton based national charity the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Mike Powell the owner of National Link Couriers started using the back of all the company's vans in support of the charity after the disease killed his mother more than 20 years ago.Mike helped care for his mother Joyce alongside his sister until the disease took her life when she was in her late 60s. However it is not just older people who suffer the debilitating effects of MND, it can affect children as young as 10. Mike said "one thing my sister and I realised is what a disgusting disease MND is. Your mental abilities stay the same, but your body just shuts down. Finally you choke to death and there's nothing you can do about it. Your mind remains active all the way through."The idea came he said when "We have a big space on our vehicles, and I'd been considering what to do with them for a while." "Our vans travel across the UK so the ads are going to be seen by thousands of people. I believe that once people know about this disease, they will be moved to help support the charity's work and find a cure." MND causes the degeneration of the motor neurones, leading to weakness and wasting of muscles and causing increased loss of mobility in the limbs and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing." Mike said "all I want to do is raise awareness. That's all I can do. People don't know about MND." "But I'm not doing this in memory of my mother; we're more concerned with the living than the dead. We want to be positive about this. I'm trying to help people now and in the future."To find out more about the work of Northampton's Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) have a look at their website mndassociation.org.   Sorry, we're not able to put clickable links in this text.
