Dr. Jonathan Pitts Crick is the senior cardiologist at the new Bristol Heart Institute, attached to the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He qualified in medicine at King's College Hospital, London and has a D.Phil in bioengineering from the University of Sussex. He worked at Guy's Hospital and The Hammersmith Hospital, London before being appointed Consultant to the BRI in 1989. He is a specialist in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and was the first in the UK to undertake the technique of RF catheter ablation for tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. He has published numerous international research papers on pacing and electrophysiology and has developed techniques for unobtrusive implantation of pacemakers and ICDs in women.In teaching students and trainee specialists he emphasises the "Art of Medicine" - the importance of two-way communication and empathy and he is currently working on a novel approach to the understanding and treatment of symptoms, especially dyspnoea (breathlessness).
