Ductwork Cleaning
In the majority of commercial buildings, especially if an air conditioning unit is in place a ducting system will also be used. The ducting will be in crawl spaces, wall cavities, under flooring and other areas in a building where they will go unnoticed. The duct connect the furnace where hot or cold air is produced to components such as grilles where the air will be expelled. The air that passes through these ducts is recycled through this system several times a day so is essential that airborne pollutants which are drawn in do not gather and build up in the system and pushed through the exit points at a later date as this is air which will be breathed in by occupants of the building and can potentially cause long term health problems. Maintaining the ducting and ensuring that it remains clean is the responsibility of building owners or business owners this is outlined in Guidance to Good Practice, which is part of the B&ES HVCA's TR19 publication as well as the Fire Safety Legislation. Breaches of these legislation can result in both a £2,000 fine and six month prison sentence. This will also see temporary closure of business until the ducting reaches an acceptable level of cleanliness and is no longer in breach of the legislation.
