The Green Apple Awards for environmental best practice is now in its 14th year and attracted over 500 nominations this year in 2007. The Pectel Group who won a National Gold ward in 2005 in the category of Environmental Best Practice for Building and Construction, this year entered into the Education and Training category. The Pectel Group demonstrated its commitment to the environment by educating all members of staff in improving their environmental practices both in the workplace and at home with a specific education and training project based around World Environment Day on the 5th June. The Pectel Group already operates an environmental management system accredited by the British Standard Institution to BS EN ISO 14001. Steve Haim, Group Quality Environmental Director said "We needed to educate and train employees on all environmental issues including global warming, sustainable development, recycling and energy reduction. Detailing what each and every one of us can do at a local level to help the global effort. We really hope that other companies could replicate the success of this project." The scheme is organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
