Education for sustainable development (ESD) is moving steadily up the educational agenda. The physical sciences have an important part to play in securing a sustainable future and our graduates should be aware of the issues and have a sustainable approach to science. Topics for ESD in physical science are not always obvious but the more easily accessible ones include topics such a green chemistry, carbon management, clean fuels, etc. Such topics are ideal for delivery via enquiry, problem and context-based approaches as they can be presented as problems and use a real life context
