The statue was badly weathered and damaged (probably during the Reformation) and had been in storage at English Heritage for some time. 3D laser scanning technology was used to capture the shape and texture of the statue and this information was used to produce a physical model on a multi axis CNC machine. The model was then painted and aged to resemble the original which is to be placed back in storage."Headless Mary", as we nicknamed her, is on display at the new visitors centre at Fountains Abbey from mid 2008.Modulus Associates and GCNC Ltd specialise in the scanning and replication of architectural features in stone, wood and plaster.
