Auld Reekie - This is the medieval nick name for the city of Edinburgh. It translates as 'old smoky' or 'old smelly' and was used by locals and those who travelled to Edinburgh to describe the city.On our tours a costumed guide will tell you ghostly historical & supernatural tales of Old Edinburgh in eerie surroundings dating back to the 1700s! Hear in every gory detail about the persecution of the witches during the 1600's and how the plague caused a slow and agonising death. Then, only if you're ready, enter our underground vaults, home of the South Bridge poltergeist! Walk these darkened vaults, once the haunt of body snatchers, criminals and witches alike! Each vault has an individual story of death, destruction, disease and crime of which your guide will enlighten you to all the gory details. You will see a modern witchcraft temple, still in use by a coven of witches today. You will also be able to enter their former temple and hear why it is no longer safe for the witches to practise in that room. Dare you step inside the stone circle?
