Redruth was once the beating heart of Cornish hard rock mining renown and famous for it's tin and copper and other minerals all over the world. The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, or 'Cornish Mining', was inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 13th 2006. World Heritage status gives international recognition to Cornish Mining's contribution to the development of our modern industrial society, and of course we can't forget the good old Cornish Pasty, also very popular around the globe. Sadly mining declined over the years and the last mine closed in the 1990s, Redruth is still a vibrant town with many small specialist shops.
