The Heritage Trust was formed for the purpose of rescuing buildings at risk throughout the UK and finding sustainable new uses for these buildings once repaired and is a revolving or multi-project building preservation trust. An unused run down building not only has its own unsightly appearance they often effect the surroundings in which they are based being a catalyst for further environmental degradation and unsocial behaviour. Often ignored they fall further into disrepair with this ultimately leading to massive rebuilding operations or demolition. Our aim to bring these buildings back into productive use by retaining their historic values within our strict conservation philosophy and were possible sympathetically upgrading elements of the design to more modern standards. Recycling buildings is itself environmentally friendly, but we also ensure that the methods and materials used also have the minimum impact and results in building with long term sustainability. Using its charitable status The Heritage Trust is able to make use of available grants, and other financial incentives to find economical solutions for bringing refurbished historical buildings back into a long term new use. Throughout the process of regeneration the local and wider community is given the opportunity to be involved with the project learning new skills as well as improving knowledge in the history of their area. A greater sense of community is developed with more feeling of belonging to a special place and pride in the historical buildings it contains. Whenever possible those needed to complete the works and supply materials will be employed from the local area with further long term job opportunities often being generated. Once completed these building will again often be a catalyst having a more positive effect on their surroundings and lift an area from dereliction.
