A Rocking good Family Heirloom Rocking horses are the finest of playthings: riders gallop over fields, mountains and clouds, their imaginations soaring and always in the secure comfort of home.  With a rocking horse your children and grandchildren have all the pleasures of the real thing, but none of the hassles - no mucking out, no vets bills and a rocking horse never tires!  A wooden rocking horse is much more than just a toy for the moment and in spite of the high-tech electronic games, remains a firm favourite.  He will outlast several generations of young riders and become a family heirloom, passed down to new generations who will always greet him with pleasure.  When, after many years, he gets old and battered he can be sent back to the restorer for a fresh coat of paint, a new saddle and new hair.  If only we could all be given a whole new lease of life so easily!   The Rocking Horse Shop, have been making and restoring Rocking Horses for over 30 years. They have developed Do It Yourself plans, kits, books, DVDs and high quality accessories for aspiring rocking horse makers.  They try to encourage as many people as possible to discover the fascination of making rocking horses.  Jane Cook, owner of The Rocking Horse Shop, says "To make your own rocking horse and to see it being enjoyed by your children and grandchildren will give you a very special sense of achievement and satisfaction."   The plans are aimed at home woodworkers and include designs for all abilities, from simple little horses for toddlers to the fine fully-carved Victorian style.  They also run three day courses in hand-carving a horse's head from scratch. For those who cannot attend a course, an instructional DVD and book is also available.   The Shop is open to visitors Monday to Saturday 9am to 4pm and as Jane says "A book or a plan makes a fantastic Christmas present and project for a proud Grandparent - why not come and see us, you will not be disappointed!"
